Attention

We can see that attention is a necessary part of success on some level. On top of this, it's clear that attention is a limited resource. If someone gives their attention to one person, it means they can't give it to another at the same time. And since we can't succeed without gaining attention on some level, we can easily assume that the key to success is largely about capturing the attention of others. We begin to play the zero-sum game of acquiring attention, because, if someone else gets it, we lose the means to our success. Social media is full of people doing this.

What we fail to do when we're caught up in this scenario is understand what we are trying to accomplish in the first place. Additionally, we also avoid asking ourselves if the attention we are receiving is the kind that serves our own goals. If the attention doesn't help us or anyone else, then, at best, we're most likely just making noise in an overly noisy world.

The only solution is to have clarity about what we want to offer and to find the people that benefit from our work. We can then step outside of seeking attention for attention's sake and have a greater chance of achieving success.
