Vassanta in B&W

I'll admit that I have a bad habit of not reaching out to models that I want to work with. I overly rely on serendipity and my wife to make photoshoots happen. I got the chance to work with Vassanta after working with Carlotta Champagne a couple times. She said she was friends with her and I guess I received a positive mention, at the very least, for my trustworthiness, because I eventually made my way up to Birmingham, AL to shoot with Vassanta in her home.

I've worked with Vassanta a total of three times now and if she didn't live so far away I'd work with her more. To put it simply, she's striking. It's not just her physique either. Her expression is able to portray a subtle but defiant intensity. It's a look that implies a knowingness that antithesizes naivety. The cherry on top to all of this is how down to earth and unassuming she is, which makes working with her ideal when trying to be creative.

These photos were all taken from our first photoshoot. My flashes kept misfiring on the ones with the gray wall, making it frustrating for me, but in the end I got one of my favorite photos out of it.
